Google now utilises a program scheme called Google Pack. Google pack is designed to be a place holder for a collection of usefull software. The best thing of all is that all software available in the Google Pack is free. As I am an active participant in the Open Source Community, I believe that free software is a brilliant thing and many webmasters would agree.

However, what exactly do you get in the Google Pack and can you choose what not to have? The answer: Yes you can. As of the modular nature of the Google Pack you can select items you want to install by simply selecting or deselecting the items you do not want installed. Google classes the collection of essential software into two categories and if you have some software already installed, it will only be updated if a new version is available;

  1. Google Software
  2. Additional Software

What software is actually available in these classes of software?

Page rank is an issue that has been consistently overlooked with many websites. After finding an interesting article on the seo blog I thought it would be worth extending the ideas and beliefs of that article to this domain. A quote from the article;

One of the old cliches and golden rules of a good web site, ‘don’t write for search engines’. If you have something to add to enhance the user experience, add it.

“Think of a name, any name, and it’s probably already registered as a .com domain. Most sites blocking your path to a memorable and descriptive names are owned by domain squatters, businesses buying domain names in bulk and running targeted advertisements from Google and Yahoo!.”

I have tried many times to register a domain with “.com” and have failed just about every time. This article, which references niallkennedy tells you about domain squatting and why it happens. This is an interested read for any webmaster and explain just why that domain name you always wanted, you will never get.
