You might have noticed that the blog was down for some time today. This was because I was in the procedure of updating the blog to Wordpress 2.2. A quote from the software vendor, Wordpress is shown below:

This version includes a number of new features, most notably Widgets integration, and over two hundred bug fixes. It’s named in honor of tenor saxophonist Stan Getz.

I would just like to point out a few things that excite me about this version.

Core plugin and filter speed optimizations should make everything feel a bit more snappy and lighter on your server.

I’m the type of person who always wants to write as little code as possible in the most efficient way possible. Therefore, this feature update is always good, for both a visitor and administrators!

Full Atom support, including updating our Atom feeds to use the 1.0 standard spec and including an implementation of the Atom Publishing API to complement our XML-RPC interface.

This is excellent! The most feeds available the better! Who said you couldnt ever keep up to date?

WordPress Widgets allow you to easily rearrange and customize areas of your weblog (usually sidebars) with drag-and-drop simplicity. This functionality was originally available as a plugin Widgets are now included by default in the core code, significantly cleaned up, and enabled for the default themes.

Whilst this item is perhaps not as usefull to this site as it would be to others, the sheer beauty of it in the administration control panel is very impressive! It is easy to use, intuitive and the “drag and drop” option is by far one of the features we should be seeing in online software packages.

If you are looking for some blogging software to install on your software, I would definitely recommend Wordpress. Its packed full of features, easy to customise, intuitive to use and is (in my opinion) the best blogging software available - never mind the open source nature of it.#
