Feedburner is an absolute must when it comes to Internet Marketing (with wordpress).  To use it properley or rather, to make the most of using feedburner - you must enable certain services on your feed.  The below explains…

By default the feedburner stats service tracks standard features including subscribers and feed reader applications.  But in addition, you should enable the following

1. Item views
2. Item link clicks — optimize for complete item use statistics.

This is just the beginning, lets see what services / options you should make use of in the “Optimize” tab.

• Browser Friendly. Make it easy for potential subscribers to preview and subscribe to your text or podcast feed. Applies clean visual formatting to the eyesore of raw feed XML for much improved readability in all modern web browsers.

• Feedflare. Give your subscribers easy ways to email, tag, share, and act on the content you publish by including as many or few of the services listed below. FeedFlare™ places a simple footer at the bottom of each content item, helping you to distribute, inform and create a community around your content.

Next, lets look at the services on the “Publicize” tab;

• Email subscriptions.  Give your biggest fans another way to keep up with your blog or podcast feed by placing an email subscription form on your site.

• Pingshot.  Most web-based feed reading services will check for updates on their own time. Give ‘em a push with PingShot. Choose the services you want to ping, and we’ll notify them when you publish new content.  In addition to the standard ping services Feedburner pings by default, you should enable:
  • Google Blog Search Pinging Service — A way to inform Google Blog Search of weblog updates.
  • Ping-o-matic — Pinging lets dozens of services know you have updated your site and increases traffic to your blog

• FeedCount - a cool way to promote your feed. It is a dynamic graphic that always displays your feed’s current circulation, as calculated by FeedBurner. Choose its color scheme and an animated or static appearance; it is yours to customize!
