In this post, I am going to tell you about the PPC campaign from Google. The program I shall be talking about is called Google Adsense, often referred to as just “Adsense” - and this is what I shall be referring to during this post. I shall be also using a few quotes from the adsense website which will be referenced in a block quote element. Want to know how to make revenue from your website without paying a penny? This post is for you.

Primarily, Google describes Adsense as:

Google AdSense matches ads to your site’s content, and you earn money whenever your visitors click on them.

What does this mean exactly? Well exactly that. You sign up for an Adsense account, Google provides relavent adverts and you get paid - well, ideally anyway - I spent a lot of time reading about Adsense optimisations, but that is for another article. The Adsense program is split into two areas consisting of “Adsense for search” and “Adsense for content”. The blockquotes below are from the Adsense website.

AdSense for content automatically crawls the content of your pages and delivers ads (you can choose both text or image ads) that are relevant to your audience and your site content—ads so well-matched, in fact, that your readers will actually find them useful.

AdSense for search allows website publishers to provide Google web and site search to their visitors, and to earn money by displaying Google ads on the search results pages.

So now that you understand the principles of Adsense, what other features are there?

Customising. Adsense will allow you to alter the colour schemes to any valid 6 alphanumeric colour hex. You have the facility to colour your ad’s border, background, title, description and text. You can even save a colour scheme for later use. There are lots of different ad formats, meaning you can integrate it into almost any web page that complies with the program policies.

Appropriate ads only. Adsense uses advanced algorithms to ensure that adverts are displayed are relavent to your website. This benefits you becuase it is more likely that a visiting user of yor web page will click the advert, thus generating revenue. The adverts that are displayed are from paying companies and individuals wanting to promote their own website. This means, your website can be targeted for advertising (which is a good thing, trust me! OK…it means that your likely to make money). Advertisers use a program called Google Adwords. I will go into detail about this program in another post.

Payment. Google has an efficient payment processing system meaning that you get paid when either a person clicks an advert or an advertiser is targeting your website on cost per thousand impressions. You can choose to be paid by cheque and an EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) system is even provided.

racking. The control panel provides statistical information which allows you to produce customisable reports. You can also append “channels” to an advertisement which will allow you to track how well that particular advertisement is performing. Locations on the page, colour schemes and ad types all affect the performance of a advertisement.

To conclude, its free. Head over to the adsense website to sign up for an account and get that revenue coming in! At first, I was scared of the commercial internet world, but honestly - its so easy. If you get stuck, just email Google for support. Have fun, I know I do!
